At Insider’s Liverpool City Region Property Awards 2023, which took place last night (12 October) at the Titanic Hotel, judges recognised the most significant property deals and developments within the city region, as well as the businesses behind them.

The award for Development of the Year went to Miller’s Quay, the Peel Waters team at Wirral Waters and its partners – Pension Insurance Corporation plc (“PIC”), GRAHAM and Wirral Council.

Miller’s Quay is the cornerstone residential scheme at Wirral Waters, the UK’s largest regeneration project, and celebrated its topping out in June. Once complete, it will comprise 500 highly sustainable one- and two-bedroom waterfront apartments.

In addition to its high levels of sustainability, Miller’s Quay is also delivering significant social value with 100 affordable new homes included and a wide range of unique learning and employment opportunities which will benefit the local community and improve employment prospects for local students.

The judges recognised that this development has brought together a long-term investor, an experienced developer and a local authority to kick-start regeneration and deliver a sustainable community. The scale of the scheme was described by the judges as “transformational” for Wirral.

Wirral Waters and Miller’s Quay beat off stiff competition from Radisson RED, Liverpool (Hollis, Leach Rhodes Walker); The Drapery, Fabric District, Liverpool (The Regenda Group); Renshaw Hall, Liverpool (Falconer Chester Hall); Bastion Point, Liverpool (Integritas Property Group); Violet, Sci-Tech Daresbury (Langtree); Glass Futures Global Centre of Excellence, St Helens (Network Space Developments, St Helens Council, UKRI, Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, Abrdn); and No. 1 Old Hall Street, Liverpool (Downing).

Richard Mawdsley, Director of Development at Wirral Waters, said: “We are delighted to receive this prestigious award for Miller’s Quay and that it has been recognised for innovation in the delivery structure, and as an example of true collaborative working. We have created an incredible partnership on this project with PIC, GRAHAM, and Wirral Council, with ongoing support from Homes England, where we all share the same ambition, and this collaboration has been crucial to the project’s success.

“The staff and students at Wirral Met College also deserve a special thank you because they have been an important part of this project from the very beginning. They are fully embracing every opportunity that this development is giving them to learn all about modern and green methods of construction and how to build the energy efficient homes of the future.

“Finally, we’d like to thank the judges and the team at Insider for seeing the impact and scale of this project and for recognising the importance of developing strong partnerships on a development of this scale.”

Peter Reavey, Regional Director at GRAHAM said, “We are delighted for the entire Project Team to receive the recognition of this prestigious award.”
