Wirral Waters named one of six new Housing Zones

Published: 11 November 2016

Wirral Waters has been named one of only six new Housing Zones as the government looks to speed up house building across the UK.

The move is part of the government’s ambition to deliver one million new homes by 2020. It means that Wirral Waters will be able to apply to a new £18 million fund. The fund will extend the capacity through the Homes and Communities Agency, to tackle planning issues that can hold up projects.

Housing Minister Gavin Barwell said that the new zones alone will help deliver almost 10,000 new homes on brownfield land alone, with all zones able to access the capacity funding to help unlock their full potential.

Housing Minister Gavin Barwell said: “We want to turbo-charge house building on large sites to get the homes built in the places people want to live, so that this country works for everyone, not just the privileged few.”

Developers will also be able to apply for funding from the government’s Home Building Fund, which is making £3 billion available to house builders.
